Interview Summary
Interview with Rachel Lopes-Cardozo who was born in Antwerp in 1912 to Dutch parents. Her parents lived in Amsterdam during WWI and then returned to Antwerp for school and work - her father was a diamond cutter. They left Belguim in 1940 and journeyed through Vichy France and stayed in Tolouse. They then escaped to Spain and then Jamaica where she and her daughter lived out the war with a group of Dutch Jews in an internment camp. She became a leader of the women in the camp. She describes life in Jamaica and then finally arriving in England via American in January 1945 when Rachel became a social worker.
