Interview Summary
Interview with Johnny Blunt who was born in 1923 in Germany and came to England on the Kindertransport. He describes his upbringing in Germany as the son of a shopkeeper; the rise of Nazism and antisemitism and the boycott of Jewish shops in 1933; the impact of Kristallnacht and the arrest and imprisonment of his father in Oranienburg concentration camp; his journey on the Kindertransport with his two brothers in 1938 and being sent to live in Glasgow; internment on the Isle of Man; military service with the Pioneer Corps during World War II, including being posted in Germany at the end of the war.
