Interview Summary
1 cassette tape of Bill Williams' talk at the Jewish Museum, 'The Trapped and the Saved', a discussion of the experiences of young refugees and their parents who could not escape Nazi Europe, using the case study of Ruth Schneier. Schneier came to Manchester as a 13 year old, from an 'Ostjuden' family in Vienna, in 1938. Her parents were unable to get visas to leave Austria, and illegally entered Croatia after the war started, where they were murdered in 1941. The talk discusses the extensive correspondence from Ruth's parents, and raises questions about how such refugee stories are interpreted.
